"A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."** – Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Now that you are ready to go…let’s get warmed up.

Starting point

After six steps in PLOT, we now have an exhaustive list of the Change Activities that are needed to uplift all of the Capabilities that we need and that have been mapped through to the Goals.

We now need to design the roadmap of Projects that can incorporate all of the change activities.

Perhaps a simple way of thinking about the process is to allocate the change activities into different Project ‘buckets’, a bit like sorting a pack of playing cards into 4 heaps that are the different suit (Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds and Spades).

Once we have sorted the change activities into Project groups, we can then sort them within each Project to a number of Feature sub-groups within the Project.

First, we need to define the projects that we envisage needing to execute the list of change activities. There is no right answer to this, but you will find that as you allocate the change activities to the projects you will see logical and rational groupings.

For example, you might allocate change activities that will be undertaken by a single team - for example any finance activities could be put in a separate project since they will require the scheduling a common set of resources and that will be easier to do if the activities are all in the same project.

For each of the Projects consider what the Objective should be for each project and what are the Key Results that should be delivered.

Design Part 1 - Projects

The first step is to define the Projects that you will need that cover all of the Change Activities.

You will create the Projects in PLOT, the Objective for each Project and the Key Results expected.

You will then sort the Change Activities into the project that you believe is the best vehicle to execute them.
